I have spent a lot of time talking about home security with a lot of homeowners. I am working to get some insight on different ways our homes can be threatened. I asked each person I spoke with if they had ever experienced any suspicious activity on their property. A robbery, a broken window, a suspicious individual – anything really. Almost everyone had at least one story to tell. Many of their experiences would lead them to get a home security system. I have learned that Security in Lake Forest is a popular choice.

One individual said that he had been home for the afternoon one day, but then left to go pick his little boy up from hockey practice. When he and his son arrived back at home about 10 minutes later, one of his windows was broken and things were missing inside. He seemed to think he had been watched, and that the burglar knew when he left. A different mother of 3 explained that she once answered the door to someone who said they were a salesman. After the guy finished speaking, he then asked if he could talk it over with her inside the house. She declined, and the man replied by asking if he could still come inside to use her phone. Considering the man was being so persistent, she again declined and shut the door in his face.

We have all had our encounters with suspicious people and situations. Some experiences are worse than others, like that of the first man. The information I am digging for helps me figure out what moves people to install a burglar alarm. The second woman said she quickly decided to get one the following day.

I have learned about plenty of similar stories from other people. We never truly know what will happen on a certain day. I am sure these two people did not wake up that morning and think something abnormal would happen later that day. It definitely emphasizes the importance of always being prepared.
